ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Believe it or not, the Cardinals have been one of the more active teams this offseason.

While it may not be the extremely aggressive off-season that Cardinal Nation would want, they have been one of the most active so far, spending the sixth most money so far.

The off-season has not reached half-way yet, but Cardinals President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak feels 'pretty bullish' on it so far from the team standpoint when he discussed it with KMOX Sports Director Tom Ackerman on Sports on A Sunday Morning.

Bullpen is still a focus for the Cardinals, with the team having reportedly had Japanese reliever Yuki Matsui visit the team Thursday along with someone else who has not been identified.

"I still think we're going to add something in the bullpen," said Mozeliak. "I do feel like from a market standpoint, a lot of times as you start to approach Christmas people get more eager to do something so it be interesting to see how these next five to six days plays out."

Mozeliak felt confident that the team will add a relief pitcher to the ranks with Ryan Helsley, Giovanny Gallegos and JoJo Romero in the back end, but feels team in a good spot in the off-season so far with the back end of the bullpen.

"We do feel Helsley, Gallegos and Romero is a good way to end the game and give us some flexibility," said Mozeliak.

Mozeliak says the goal for the club this off-season was to seek avenues to shorten the game for the back end of the bullpen, whether that means acquiring starters who can go deep and/or acquiring pitchers in the bullpen that can pitch more than one inning.

"When you think about adding a rotation arm still versus bullpen, all we want to do is shorten the game(for the back end of the bullpen)," said Mozeliak. "It's nine innings and the deeper we can go for our starters, the better our bullpen will be regardless of who's in it. That's been the key of this off-season and we're going to continue to work that way."
