ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - For much of the St. Louis Cardinals offseason, most of the talk has been about the Cardinals efforts to trade third baseman Nolan Arenado.

While it's still possible Arenado could get traded, it doesn't appear Arenado is on the verge of getting moved right now, according to Cardinals President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak.

Mozeliak joined KMOX Sports Director Tom Ackerman joined 'Sports On A Sunday Morning' and says at the moment, 'it has been very quiet' when it comes to the Cardinals efforts to trade Arenado.

"If we have the ability to find him a place he desires, it's something we are going to try to do," said Mozeliak. "If not, he will have to be a part of our club moving forward."

"I think (Arenado) understands that, but I think again we have a lot of time left and we'll see how things shake out over the next three to six weeks, but a lot of time and just to remind ourselves that there is that time."

The Cardinals have made it no secret on their efforts to trade Arenado, and it appeared they were close to trading him to the Houston Astros earlier this offseason before Arenado nixed the trade.

While there were some trade rumors linking Arenado to the New York Yankees, it appears that will not happen. But a potential trade to the Yankees hated rivals the Boston Red Sox could appear to be on the cards (pun intended), with Chris Cotillo and Sean McAdam of MassLive.com reporting on Sunday night the Red Sox are a 'a preferred destination' and 'there would be no hesitation on Arenado’s end to accept the deal.'

While it's still possible Arenado will get moved, it's probably likely any trade for Arenado will take place after Alex Bregman decides on his next destination, with the Red Sox and Detroit Tigers among potential suitors for Bregman.

Arenado, an eight-time All Star who has spent the last four seasons with the Cardinals, is set to earn $74 million over the next three years, with the Rockies on the hook for $10 million while $12 million of the deal is differed.
