ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The St. Louis Cardinals may not be playing in the 2024 MLB postseason, but the month of October will still be busy for the franchise.
The 2024 season is almost at an end for the Cardinals. While the 2024 season is an overall improvement compared to 2023, with the Cardinals having already surpassed their 2023 win total of 71 games this season, there still a scent of disappointment as the Cardinals will miss the postseason for the second straight season and fifth time in the last nine seasons.
While the season is almost at an end for the Cardinals, the franchise will be busy in the month of October as they look to make some changes within the front office following the retirement of longtime Cardinals Director of Player Development Gary LaRocque.
"It will be a very busy month of October as we look to reset our front office," said Cardinals President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak on 'Sports On A Sunday Morning'. "(LaRocque) a dear friend of mine, a tremendous asset to this franchise and really did a lot for us especially in a time of need."
"I look forward to still working with him, but just in a different capacity. He really was a special person and loved the game of baseball."
Mozeliak previously joined 'Sports On A Sunday Morning' a few weeks back and hinted changes would be coming for Cardinals following the retirement of LaRocque, but one thing that was not originally discussed was the succession plan for Mozeliak, who has more than hinted that he will step down from his role following the 2025 season.
Mozeliak was asked by KMOX Sports Director Tom Ackerman if there any updates regarding that succession plan.
"At some point this offseason, we will definitely sit down with everybody and sort of lay out what that all could look like," said Mozeliak. "But in the meantime, I think the focus is in the next seven days and then at some point, we will turn the page and really focus on 2025 and beyond."
