ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - What a solid rebound by the St. Louis Cardinals this past week.
The Cardinals entered last week with the season looking ever increasingly grim after starting the month of August rather slow, losing 12 of their first 17 games. However, the Cardinals were able to put rebound and put up a solid performance against the Milwaukee Brewers and Minnesota Twins, winning both series'.
The Cardinals 3-2 win against the Twins on Sunday was rather impressive as some players, including starter Erik Fedde and outfielder Lars Nootbaar, had to wake up very early in the morning Sunday at around 2:30 a.m. due to water line issue at the team hotel in Minneapolis.
"That didn't seem to bother the Cardinals, who played it right down to the very last out of the ballgame." said John Rooney, Voice of the Cardinals, on Total Information A.M. on KMOX.
"I thought it was going to be the last couple of outs on a groundball on second, but (Jose Fermin) took off, had a break for second base, forced a quick throw by Edouard Julien and he air mailed the ball to Willi Castro in left field. That turned the whole day around and the Cardinals won two out of three."
Rooney feels the last two series victories for the Cardinals against the Brewers and Twins could lead them to go on a good run of form.
"To play it right down to the last break and win, with Ryan Helsley picking up his 40th save, it was really a good weekend and they need to carry that momentum now into a series against one of the top Wild Card contenders (in the National League) in San Diego."
