ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The St. Louis Cardinals has been extremely slow to get going to begin 2024 in the batter's box.
A big cause of the struggles stems from their stars hitters with Paul Goldschmidt, Nolan Arenado having been slow and the likes of younger players like Nolan Gorman, Jordan Walker, and Victor Scott II has not seen a ton of success at the plate.
Walker and Scott II have since been demoted and optioned to the minors due to their struggles at the plate, while Goldschmidt, Gorman and Arenado has seen some potential over the last few games.
Goldschmidt seems to be starting to get into a groove, posting a .724 OPS in his last six games, including finally hitting his second home run of season against his former club the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Gorman had a terrific series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, racking up four hits, including a 2-run walk off home run in nine at bats against his hometown club, while Arenado has found a groove, posting a .924 OPS over the Cardinals last 14 games
John Rooney, the Voice of the Cardinals, says the Cardinals success on offense is a matter of getting the big guys going during his appearance on Total Information A.M. Friday.
"You get Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt swinging a hot bat, Nolan Gorman looks like he's coming around now," said Rooney. "A few more line drives and hard hit balls from Brendan Donovan, and that's going to take a little bit of the edge off from the pitchers."
Rooney hopes the Cardinals can get something off of Kyle Gibson terrific start as the Cardinals are in Queens, New York to take on the New York Mets at Citi Field. The Mets will throw out Jose Quintana, Jose Butto and Adrian Houser this weekend against the Cardinals, who will Miles Mikolas, Sonny Gray and Lance Lynn pitch this series.
"It's just a matter of getting the big guys hitting," said Rooney.
