ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The Cardinals looked like they have found a groove the last couple games.
The Cardinals' first two months of the 2024 season have been turbulent to say the least, with the club currently standing at 21-26 overall, which is only good enough for fourth place in the NL Central.
But the Cardinals have seemed to have found a rhythm lately, winning six out of their last eight games, which included series victories to the Los Angeles Angels and Boston Red Sox during this run.
A few players on the Cardinals, particularly on the hitting side, have had good month of May, including Michael Siani, who had a big game Monday against one of baseball's most exciting teams in the Baltimore Orioles, collecting four RBIs and hitting his first career home run in the Majors.
John Rooney, the Voice of the Cardinals, says the players have looked a lot more relaxed over the last couple games then they were early on in the season, and that has contributed to the success they have had recently.
"This is a team that is a lot more relaxed than it was when they left town for Milwaukee," said Rooney on The Chris and Amy Show Tuesday. "The first two games, those were ugly games in Milwaukee on the last road trip."
Rooney thinks what is showing him the Cardinals are more relaxed were the performances of Siani and Masyn Winn, who combined for four hits Monday and collected all six RBIs during the game.
"Out of eight and nine in the order, the Cardinals got six runs batted in, that tells me the guys are relaxing and are beginning to play and execute the way they have hoped," said Rooney.
Rooney says he thinks the good run of form started during Saturday's 3-5 loss to the Brewers, where he saw some life, from the Cardinals having a lead before Rhy Hoskins burned it down in the seventh inning with go-ahead three-run home run off Andrew Kittredge.
"I saw life from the offense (Saturday) and it came back after the team were down on Sunday in Milwaukee and they were to come back and win that," said Rooney. "They were down in Anaheim (on Monday) and they came back to win that with a eight-run seventh inning and had a five-run lead (on Friday against the Red Sox) they let get away, but the team has managed to string hits together, score late and win that."
