ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - When the Cardinals 2024 season was set to begin, there was some concerns from loudmouth sport talk pundits and fans a like that the Cardinals could start off to a really slow in the 2024 due to how stacked the club's schedule is to start the year, with 25 of the first 28 games for the Cardinals to begin the 2024 season being against teams who have made the postseason the past two years.
By most expectations so far, while the Cardinals are still in last place in the NL Central so far, a 9-10 start and only three games behind the division-leading Milwaukee Brewers after taking on the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks away and Philadelphia Phillies at home is somewhat a decent start.
John Rooney, the Voice of the Cardinals, joined Total Information A.M. to discuss the Cardinals series against the Milwaukee Brewers, it's first series of the year against a division opponent and says it to be back at home after the amount of travel the club has had already to the West Coast.
"Going west, then facing a few teams in the NL East, then going west again to play the Diamondbacks in Phoenix and the A's in Oakland, so it will be nice to play a Milwaukee team that is in first place in the division (at home)," said Rooney.
Rooney says if the club can stay competitive and be decent in April and May, it will help them tremendously and give players the confidence to compete in a division that Rooney says is 'wide open.'
"It's a wide open division," said Rooney. "I think if the Cardinals can see their way through the rest of the month in April and through May, it's going to be an interesting season in St. Louis as everything comes to shape. The hitting is going to come around at some point, but I think the pitching is starting to line up."
