ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The National Baseball Hall of Fame announced Monday the eight players who will be on the ballot for the Classic Baseball Era Committee and among the eight players named on the ballot include two formers Cardinals.
Dick Allen and Ken Boyer were among the eight players named onto the ballot. Joining Allen and Boyer on the ballot include John Donaldson, Steve Garey, Vic Harris, Tommy John, Dave Parker and Luis Tiant.
Boyer played 11 seasons with the Cardinals, where he slashed an overall line of .293/.356/.475, smashing 255 homers, 1,001 RBIs and 1,855 hits.
During his time with the Cardinals, Boyer was named an All-Star 11 times, won five Gold Gloves and was named the NL MVP in 1964, where he led the NL in RBIs with 119. Boyer won a World Series with the Cardinals in 1964, prevailing over the New York Yankees in seven games. Boyer hit two home runs in that series, including a crucial grand slam in Game 4 of the 1964 World Series, his lone World Series and postseason appearance.
Allen, who more known for his time with the Philadelphia Phillies and Chicago White Sox, played only season with the Cardinals in 1970, but he was excellent in that lone season with the Cardinals, posting an overall slash line of .279/.377/.560, smashing 34 home runs and collecting 101 RBIs, along with earning him an All-Star appearance that season.
Allen has been considered for Cooperstown multiple times, with Allen notably falling one vote shy of being inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2021.
Candidates on the ballot will need to receive at least 75% of the vote from the committee to earn election. The results of the vote will announced on Sunday Dec. 8 at 6:30 p.m. central time.
