ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The St. Louis Cardinals have been flying since Mother's Day, posting a 25-13 record since that weekend, and only losing three series' in that stretch.
The great run of form has propelled the Cardinals from being dead last in the NL Central and 4.5 games behind in the NL Wild Card race to being second in the division and holding the second Wild Card Spot heading into a doubleheader with the Atlanta Braves.
Cardinals manager Oli Marmol joined Total Information A.M. Wednesday right before the doubleheader to discuss the success and Marmol credits the offense' consistency as being a huge factor in the Cardinals excellent run of form.
"I feel like we are having some really good at bats," said Marmol. "The way we are approaching starters...we faced some really good arms and we have taken some really good swings against them. The way you look at the San Francisco Series with (former Cardinals reliever Jordan Hicks) and (Logan) Webb, the starters are having to navigate a really tough lineup right now and the consistency of our offense has led to more wins."
Since May 12, the Cardinals have posted a weighted runs created plus (wRC+) of 112, which is tied for ninth-best in the majors in that stretch and a wOBA an fWAR of .324 and 6.6 respectively, with both just being slightly outside the top-10 in all of baseball, according to FanGraphs.
A few Cardinals hitters have stood out during this run, with Masyn Winn, Alec Burleson and Brendan Donovan, unsurprisingly, being at the top, all posting a wRC+ of at least 130 and an OPS of at least .800 in this stretch. While his overall numbers do not look good, Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, has been quietly good in this stretch, posting a OPS of .785 and wRC+ of 124 in this stretch.
