ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The Cardinals are on fire, winning 11 of their last 14 games and that terrific run of form has the club internally believing it can win the NL Central.
In cased you missed it, Adam Wainwright joined KMOX's Total Information A.M. Tuesday to talk with KMOX Sports Director Tom Ackerman and during the talk, Wainwright shared a text conversation he had with former teammate Paul Goldschmidt after the Cardinals Mother's Day victory in Milwaukee, with Goldschmidt proclaiming to Wainwright that there is belief internally Cardinals can win the NL Central.
"To hear Goldy say that, I'm an optimist, and I'm always saying things like that, but Goldy doesn't spout out that stuff all the time," said Wainwright. "He believes, that clubhouse believes and you have seen the difference of their play over the last two weeks and they have won almost all the games. They are doing great and I'm proud of them."
Marmol joined Total Information A.M. Wednesday to discuss Wainwright's comments and he says the belief isn't just limited to just one or two players.
"It's not just one or two or five guys, it's everyone throughout," said Marmol. "Every guy throughout, every member upstairs, it doesn't matter, everyone that is a part of it right now has that feel and they are all committed to it."
Marmol says that there's a sense of work and commitment that is taking place before games right now that he can't disagree with Wainwright that there is a belief they can win the NL Central and they will chase the Brewers however long it takes.
"The guys, man, they are going to go hard," said Marmol. "Whenever or however long it takes, but we are going to chase and we are going to give them everything we got. Our goal when we left Spring Training was to firstly win the division and the guys are committed to doing that."
