ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - If Tuesday night was the last time St. Louis Cardinals fans got to see Lance Lynn pitch for the Cardinals at Busch Stadium, Lynn went out on a high.
Lynn made his 100th appearance at Busch Stadium Tuesday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates, putting a quality performance of pitching six innings, striking out five and the only run that Lynn allowed was a solo home run by Pirates outfielder Bryan De La Cruz in the second inning.
Tuesday night was potentially Lynn's last start at Busch Stadium in a Cardinals uniform. While the Cardinals do have a $11 million dollar team option for Lynn in 2025, the expectations certainly appears it will likely get declined.
"He been phenomenal," said Oli Marmol on Total Information A.M. Wednesday. "This is a guy who just competes extremely well. I've known him for a long time. We actually played together coming up in the minor leagues when he was drafted."
Marmol says that while Lynn drive to compete is still the same as it was when they were together in the minor leagues, he has seen someone who has matured and grown over his career.
"This is a guy who when I spoke with him in the offseason before we signed him and after, one of the first things we talked about how (Lynn) wanted to bring these young guys along, bridge the gap between the veteran group and the young group," said Marmol. "We probably talked more about that then the game. He's done that extremely, extremely well."
"He comes to the clubhouse, he has his own way of doing it, there's accountability that goes along with it, but man he has done a phenomenal job of just making sure that those guys what it looks to post and prepare. He knows the game inside and out and having him inside that clubhouse has been incredible."
