MDC shared a photo of the trophy deer shot by David Hargrove and congratulated him.

It was also a successful weekend for one of the youngest hunters in the state, Jackson Boyer, 7, of Hillsboro harvested his first deer in Adair County:

And MDC is looking to provide food to the hungry through deer meat donated by hunters this season. Hunters can choose to give part or all of any deer they harvest. They simply bring their deer to an approved meat processor to process the venison, usually into ground meat, where it is then packaged for distribution.

Share the Harvest is a statewide partnership between MDC, the Conservation Federation of Missouri, Operation Food Search, cooperating meat processors, and hunters.

Of the deer harvested this weekend, 54,415 were antlered bucks, 7,187 were button bucks, and 28,259 were does. Last year, hunters checked 80,744 deer during opening weekend of the November portion of firearms deer season.

Firearms deer season continues through Nov. 23. Missouri’s archery deer and turkey season resumes Nov. 24 through Jan. 15, 2022. The late youth portion of firearms season runs Nov. 26-28. The antlerless portion of firearms deer season runs Dec. 4-12 followed by the alternative methods portion Dec. 25 through Jan. 4, 2022.
