ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - While St. Louis City SC was able to snatch a point against one of the best teams in the MLS right now in Inter Miami, which features a roster of FC Barcelona legends like Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba, but one person feels the club should've snatched all three points.
St. Louis City SC Head Coach Bradley Carnell joined KMOX for his weekly interview Monday, and while City SC was able to get a draw against Inter Miami, he believed the team had every opportunity to win Saturday night.
"In the heat of the moment, I said postgame I felt like we should've won that game and I still have those feelings and sentiments," said Carnell Monday to KMOX Sports Director Tom Ackerman. "We presented ourselves with a lot of bite and fight and we respect the names only after the game."
Carnell says that heading into the game he felt the players were showing performances that Carnell, his coaching staff and the club needed based on where they were in the season.
"I said to some of the guys afterwards 'imagine Lionel (Messi) 10 years ago busting it up in Europe when he was really in his prime,'" said Carnell. "To see our guys go at it I mean, I haven't seen Messi lose the ball in a game that much in the MLS, which was pretty cool to watch: our principles against greatness."
Despite the draw, Carnell says he has seen the club have fun and there are a lot of positives from the game.
"If we stick together, if we stay connected, we can produce great things," said Carnell. We got into many good moments...I see a lot of good in this group, a lot of fun in what we are doing, and a light at the end of the tunnel cause when it comes against an opponent like that, usually these things are heightened."
