ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - One of the key men at St. Louis City SC won't be going anywhere anytime time.

On Friday, St. Louis City SC announced that the club has signed Sporting Director Lutz Pfannenstiel to a new contract that will take him through the 2026 campaign.

"He's attracted both established and high potential young talent from across the globe and, together with Bradley and the rest of the sporting leadership, brought them together to create a winning formula." said CITY SC President and GM, Diego Gigliani in a release. "With Lutz continuing at the helm of our soccer operations, it provides valued continuity as we bring CITY fans the thrilling soccer they have come to love."

Pfannenstiel joined City SC in 2020 after a nearly a decade working with German sides TSG Hoffenheim and Fortuna Dusseldorf from 2011-2020. While the club was still three years from their first season of MLS play, Pfannenstiel began to build the foundations of the club, beginning with the creation and growth of City SC's sporting department from the Academy and MLS NEXT Pro to the building of the club's training center and eventually, the first team.

Among Pfannenstiel's notable moves is bringing in Bradley Carnell from the Red Bull System to be the club's first head coach and going to his Bundesliga roots and brought in goalkeeper Roman Bürki, striker João Klauss, and midfielder Eduard Löwen, players who had experience in Germany's top division.

The moves led to City SC starting their inaugural season of 2023 with a bang, finishing the top of the Western Conference and earning qualification to the CONCACAF Champions Cup tournament.

"I am very appreciative for the opportunity to continue in St. Louis and couldn't thank Carolyn, the ownership group and Diego enough for their support," said Pfannenstiel. "When I arrived in 2020, I had a short, medium and long term plan as to how the future would pan out and this gives me the opportunity to further build on the foundation we have placed here."
