ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis City SC and Sporting Kansas City will reignite it's rivalry for the first time since City SC got absolutely demolished by Sporting in it's first round MLS Playoffs last season, losing both games in its matchup with Sporting KC, including losing 4-1 at CITYPARK in game one.

St. Louis City SC is coming off a win at CITYPARK, with striker Joao Klauss finally going a score in the run of play in almost seven months against Austin FC. The last time Klauss scored a goal in the run of play before that? You have to look at the Sporting KC and St. Louis SC matchup at CITYPARK in late September 2023, where Klauss scored a brace.

Sporting KC, meanwhile, is coming off an entertaining 3-2 loss to Inter Miami at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, where 72,096 fans came to watch an entertaining game which included Miami star Lionel Messi scoring a absolute Golazo in the second half of the game.

City SC radio analyst Dale Schilly, who you can listen to call every City SC game on KMOX's sister station Y98 says the game, which will at Children Mercy's Park in Kansas City, Kansas, will be incredibly "spicy".

"I just think part of the spice for the soccer folks out there is the complete opposite styles of play," said Schilly. "(Sporting Kansas City) want to have the ball, they want to make the game expanded and big and cover the whole field. (City SC) wants to keep the game compact and score goals as quickly as they can and they don't care if they have the ball. You have two completely different philosophies."

The highly anticipated cross-state showdown is slated for 7:30 p.m. The game will be on Apple TV+ and is also live on radio on Y98.
