
(AP -- St. Louis) In his first game as head coach of St. Louis City SC, Olaf Mellberg's squad showed promise on offense and tenacity on defense, in a 0-0 draw with the Colorado Rapids.
Zack Steffen had five saves for Colorado as the Rapids and St. Louis City played to a 0-0 tie on Saturday night in the season opener for both teams.
Steffen stopped close-range shots by Simon Becher in the 16th and 49th minutes.
St. Louis had 54% possession and outshot the Rapids 18-2, 5-0 on target, in the home opener for City SC at the newly renamed Energizer Park in downtown St. Louis.
St. Louis forward Simon Becher was named Man of the Match. City SC next travels to Southern California to take on San Diego FC Saturday, March 1. Kickoff is set for 930 pm Central Time.
