ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis CITY SC, and the club's construction partners – the joint venture of Mortenson, Alberici and L. Keeley (MAK) – are celebrating a major milestone, the placement of the first steel beam, with steel fabricated locally in St. Louis for the downtown, 22,500-seat stadium.
On Wed. the St. Louis CITY SC ownership group, city officials and a randomly selected "starting XI" fans participated in a steel beam signing ceremony to commemorate the major milestone. The first steel beam was put in place on Mon., Dec. 14, which initiated this phase of construction.
They allowed media into the construction site for the first time since breaking ground in February. You can see photos from the tour at the bottom of this page.
CITY also launched a stadium district-specific website today where fans and community members can be immersed in the stadium district progress. As part of the website launch, the spirited video commemorating the steel beam milestone is featured on the site for all CITY fans to celebrate the momentous occasion.

The stadium is set to be open before the team begins play in 2023

The stadium will use 17,000 linear feet of drilled piers; equal to 27 Gateway Arches stacked on top of each other

This will be the view from the pitch

The heaviest steel beam weighs 76,000 pounds; equal to 40 Budweiser Clydesdales

13,900 container yards of structural concrete required to complete the stadium; equal to 4.5 Olympic-sized swimming pools

This project will be one-of-a-kind for MLS, as no other team has its team front offices, training facility, practice fields and the stadium in the same location
