ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis City SC squad has seen plenty of players who have had experience in Germany, most notably captain Roman Bürki and midfielder Eduard Löwen.
Now City SC is adding a bit more German flavor to squad, announcing the signing of forward Cedric Teuchert Tuesday, joining the club on a free transfer.
City SC says Teuchert has signed a two-year deal through June 2026 with a club option for the remainder of 2026. Teuchert will occupy an international roster spot and have a contract designation of a Target Allocation Money player.
"Cedric is a proven goal scorer that will help improve our roster," said City SC Sporting Director Lutz Pfannenstiel. "His quality on the ball, whether it is dead-ball opportunities or inside the box, is a strength that will be beneficial for the team."
Teuchert has spent the last two and a half seasons in the 2. Bundesliga, Germany second division, with Hannover 96. While Hannover 96 fell a bit short of returning to the Bundesliga, finishing in sixth, the German attacker had a productive time, scoring double-digit goals in both full seasons with the club, including scoring 12 goals in all competition this past season.
Prior to joining Hannover 96, Teuchert played for FC Schalke and Union Berlin. During his time with Schalke, Teuchert was able to see playing time in the UEFA Champions League, appearing in two matches, including in the second leg of Schalke's round-of-16 loss to Manchester City back in 2019.
The signing will reunite Teuchert with Lowen, who were teammates both at club level at 1. FC Nuremberg and at youth international level, playing together for Germany's Under-21 and Olympic National team.
Teuchert's addition will certainly be welcoming to the City SC squad who have seen struggles scoring goals this MLS campaign, scoring the fourth-fewest goals in the Western Conference. In the club's inaugural season, City SC scored the third-most goals in all of MLS.
City SC says Teuchert will be available for selection beginning July 18, the start of MLS Summer Transfer Window.
