This week, St. Louis CITY SC is gearing up for their first game of the season. On Saturday, February 25 they'll head to Texas to take on Austin FC.
CITY's head coach Bradley Carnell told KMOX what the energy on the team is like, especially after COVID and other delays.
"It's incredibly emotional. It's incredibly exciting. And I can't wait to get going on Saturday against Austin," he told KMOX.
The team's first game at CITYPARK will be just a week later on March 4. Carnell said he's been working to make sure the team understands its legacy in St. Louis.
"There were a lot of talented soccer players here way before us, and we're just trying to continue this process," he said. We might be the first MLS team. But we know what it means to the community. And we can see just by the intake and the volume of fans and viewership and tweets and texts, and you know, just the popularity amongst the St. Louisans — what a moment to be part of this club."
