ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Football season is finally over, but fútbol season in the states is ready to get started.
The 2025 MLS regular season is set to get underway on Saturday, Feb. 22. For St. Louis City SC, they will start the season on familiar grounds, hosting Colorado Rapids on their home ground, which has now become known as Energizer Park.
"It will definitely be soon our season again, hopefully a very good one," said St. Louis City SC Sporting Director Lutz Pfannenstiel on 'Total Information A.M.'
For City SC, they want to forget last season, which saw them finish as the third-worst team in the Western Conference. Last season also saw the club sack head coach Bradley Carnell mid-season.
"We're looking forward already to the big game," said Pfannenstiel. "I think in preseason, there is still a lot of fine tuning and work to do."
"Preseason is the time to try things. You shouldn't take the results too serious because some teams are changing their entire teams after 60 minutes for a new 11 players and the fluid movement is gone."
City SC are in California for preseason and are set to play two more preseason matches before the home opener on Saturday, Feb. 22.
"California, especially Coachella, is a great place to be (for preseason), with a lot of MLS teams here for training camp," said Pfannenstiel.
This upcoming, City SC will have a new head coach in former Aston Villa defender Olof Mellberg, but the style City SC fans have come to been accustomed to will remain the same under Mellberg.
"Having a new coach, where obviously, communication and getting to know each other is a big thing, we're working on that every day, telling, grooming, talking," said Pfannenstiel.
