It's been a signature product of the St. Louis region, but soon, we won't be making any more of them.

Boeing has announced that it plans to end production of the F/A-18 Super Hornet in late 2025. That's when the last fighter jets ordered by the U.S. Navy will be completed and delivered.

Boeing says the line could be extended to 2027 if another country decides to buy some jets. The company adds that the discontinuation of the jet doesn't mean job cuts; in fact, Boeing has hired 900 people in the last year.

Forbes described the Super Hornet as "what is widely considered the msot successful aircraft in the history of naval aviation." They report that as the Super Hornet's lifespan comes to an end, the company will distribute its workers to work on other projects like the T-7 Red Hawk trainer and the MQ-25 Stingray.

According to Boeing's website, the jet wasfirst deployed into combat in July of 2002.
