ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - We use gift registries to help celebrate some of the biggest events in our life including getting married, having a baby.
Now, there are gift registries for people who have just gotten a divorce.
Olivia Hall, co-founded with her sister Fresh Starts Registry, a site for the recently divorced following her own divorce back in 2019.
"I got divorced in April 2019 and my ex took his things out of the house and everything else that was left in the house were emotionally charged items," said Hall on Total Information A.M. "With the help of my sister who we own a marketing agency together, we cleaned the house and donated a lot of those emotionally charged items to people who may need them. Then I had this 'aha' moment where I thought, 'wait a second, I need the support right now and the items to restock and rebuild my life during this type of life change. Right? I had two baby registries. I had a wedding registry. This is when I need a registry' I did a little Google search and realized very quickly the divorce registry was not even a thing, it didn't exist. So I brought the idea to my sister and I said, 'hey, we should build this'."
Together with her sister, Hall says they were able to build the first-ever divorce registry with Fresh Starts Registry.
"We have people who make a registry with us for divorce, but also for job loss or for mental health stuff for you," said Hall, "But know if you're a widow, if you wrote a book or if you bought your first house because we believe everybody is worthy of a registry."
