ST. LOUIS (KMOX) -- New trademark applications filed by Starbucks indicate the coffee giant plans to put its name on a major sports facility.

KMOX partner Bloomberg News reports Starbucks is registering its name and mermaid logo for the use of "promoting business, sports and entertainment events of others" and "providing stadium and training facilities for sports and entertainment activities."

The application was filed June 2nd.

"This is exactly how a company would file a trademark application if the intent is to use the trademark as the name of a stadium" and it implies it "intends to do so soon," trademark specialist Josh Gerben told Bloomberg News.

So which stadium might be in line for a caffeine jolt?

Starbucks is based in Seattle, where the NHL's Kraken are preparing to start play. But they'll take the ice inside a refurbished KeyArena, now-called Climate Pledge Arena under an Amazon sponsorship.

Other sports teams currently seeking a stadium sponsor include the NBA's Indiana Pacers, and the MLS' Columbus Crew and St. Louis CITY SC.

KMOX News asked the local group if they've been in discussions with Starbucks and received this response:

"We can't fully espresso our appreciation for the excitement we continue to receive from the business community. We've had latte conversations on stadium naming rights, however they are still brewing and aren't ready to spill the beans just yet. We look forward to being able to provide further updates on other St. Louis CITY founding partners when the grind is right."

However, a team spokesperson added that they're not in conversations with Starbucks. Team leadership has placed an emphasis on local partnerships.

CITY SC has already announced St. Louis-based Nestle Purina Pet Care, with its iconic checkerboard square logo, as jersey sponsor.

Meantime, on Friday, St. Louis' upcoming MLS team released new views of the seating configuration inside the still-unnamed stadium.

Upper seats are depicted in "CITY Red" and those closer to the field, or pitch, are colored "River Blue." The word "CITY" is painted across seats in the lower bowl on the stadium's east side.
