St. Louis (KMOX) -- The COVID grace period is over. Evictions will resume in St. Louis beginning next week.

The U.S. Supreme Court recently blocked the Biden administration's attempt to extend the eviction moratorium.

Sheriff Lt. Neil Hogan says if you're on the list and you got a notice, you need to get ready.

"Get your stuff packed before we get there," Hogan said. "It's going to stop them from being embarrassed in front of their friends and neighbors or other people in their apartment.

"Everything is going to be taken to the dump. They're going to lose everything."

Hogan says they have court orders to evict 135 delinquent renters, and it's expected to get more.

Missouri Congresswoman Cori Bush (D-St. Louis) fought to extend the eviction moratorium and said on social media last week that her fight will not end.

Renters can try to get a stay from a judge or get rental assistance from City Hall.
