ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A Danish Master Chef wants to turn Alton, Illinois into a culinary destination.

Some people know Danish American chef Lasse Sorensen for his time with PBS show 'Food is Loved' which sees him travel around the St. Louis-area most-celebrated restaurants and eateries, learning about the people and culture behind the food.

Now, Sorenson is moving his home base to Alton, Illinois to help turn the Illinois river town into a culinary destination.

"I had a restaurant for 26 years. I worked in the best restaurants and I hope this will be a crown jewel of my career," said Sorenson on Total Information A.M. Monday.

Sorenson believes that the scenic river town is a prime spot.

"I would like to see a lot of restaurants to create a hub and maybe all of them being located where you can look towards the riverfront because that that what makes it unique," said Sorenson.

Sorensen says he hopes to build a hub of restaurants that could look make the downtown area a thriving area.

"For me, I think (Alton) has a kind of European feel to it, but I think the downtown area I feel needs to be a thriving community," said Sorenson.
