(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Customs officials have announced the seizure of dozens of illegal, sharp objects headed for Illinois.

The package was labeled as “handcrafted Mexican artisan rattles” and was sent from Mexico City to Rantoul, Ill.

Customs and Border Protection officers in Louisville, Ky., intercepted the package in January, though. Inside, they found 120 cockfighting spurs.

The razor-sharp metal is often attached to birds’ legs during cockfights, which were banned across the U.S. in 2018.

The parcel also contained two gaffs/leg attachment sheaths.

“A great job by our officers keeping dangerous and illegal items from reaching our community," said LaFonda D. Sutton-Burke, director of field operations at Customs and Border Protection's Chicago field office.

“This is yet another dramatic example of how dedicated CBP officers are to the CBP mission.”
