ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones says it will cost about 400-million dollars to fix the City's aging infrastructure water system.
Jones says the money could possibly come from the state, they have over a hundred million Dollars EPA allocation through the bipartisan infrastructure law and we've been in conversations with the EPA."
Using ARPA funds is not an option, as that money is already allocated. But Jones does not think the EPA would say we're not going to fund your water infrastructure project.
Since last week, there have been 16 broken water mains, five are repaired, but the others, including a large one on Hampton and Wilson and 44 are not.
Jones says the water rates in the City have not increased in 12 or 13 years. She adds, the City's water rates are nearly half of what St. Louis County residents pay and City water is not metered.
This past weekend, there were 16 water main breaks in St. Louis.
