St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner is hit with a second contempt of court order after another instance of failing to staff a court case.

In this second instance, an 11-year-old girl had been shot in the arm when a man fired at an apartment building. No one from Gardner's office showed up for that hearing, so the judge issued the contempt order.

Earlier in the day, another judge dropped his contempt order after a member of her staff explained why he failed to show up for a murder trial last Monday. The assistant circuit attorney told the judge he was out on sick leave and had filled out the paperwork, but somehow the court wasn't notified.

Relatives of the man who was shot and killed near the Arch grounds in 2021 spoke outside the court house, urging Kim Gardner to get ready for the murder trial now set for June. "Please show up and be there," one family member pleaded. "Do your job," said another.

The defendant in the case has been ordered held without bond for trial.
