
SIKESTON, MO (KMOX) - A Sikeston Missouri Police officer died in the line of duty Monday.
41-year old Officer Henry Franklin was assisting the Mississippi County Sheriff serving a warrant on a murder suspect. Police say 36-year old Nathan Peters barricaded himself inside a home and opened fire on officers. Franklin was hit during the exchange of gunfire.
Missouri Highway Patrol's Troop C was called in to assist. When police entered the home early Tuesday morning, they found Peters dead from a self inflicted gunshot.
Officer Franklin was a United States National Guard veteran and had served with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety for over 12 years. He is survived by his wife and four children.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
