
ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The St. Louis Sports Commission announced Wednesday morning the recipients of the 2023 Musial Awards and among the honorees will include now-retired Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright.
Wainwright was named alongside seven other honorees to be honored at the Musial Awards on Nov. 18th at the Stifel Theatre.
Wainwright will receive the Musial Award for Extraordinary Character, which annually recognizes an individual who demonstrates remarkable class, perseverance, and overall sportsmanship.
Wainwright will be honored for his achievements and sportsmanship on the field and his philanthropic efforts off the field, with Big League Impact.
"Wainwright has always used the power of his celebrity and stature in the game to do good in the world – a lot of good." said in a statement by the Musial Awards, "He has proven to be a selfless teammate, an inspiring philanthropist, and a constant beacon of respect, consistency, and outstanding sportsmanship."
Along with Wainwright, among other honorees include the University of Dayton Flyer Pep Band, who served as Farleigh Dickinson's pep band as the school's basketball team went on to upset Purdue in the 2023 NCAA Basketball Tournament, Emilia Rossatti, a female fencer who chose to run out the clock and purposely lose after her opponent suffered an ankle injury with 17 seconds left, even though her opponent was winning.
Former New Jersey Senator and NBA Legend Bill Bradley will receive 2023 Stan Musial Lifetime Achievement Award. Bradley used his influence, fame, and platform as a vehicle to achieve good for humanity.
