MADISON COUNTY, Ill. (KMOX) - An Alton, Ill. mom is sentenced to seven years in prison after she pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter. She refused to treat her daughter for diabetes – and the daughter died.

Amber Hampshire, 41, faced up to 14-years in prison in the death of her 14-year-old daughter, Emily Hampshire. The daughter was diagnosed with diabetes five years before her death, and the mother was accused of refusing to take her to the doctor or get her insulin shots.

Amber Hampshire skipped medical appointments for her daughter and lied on her school medical forms to cover it up.

Testimony during the sentencing hearing indicated it was not about money or religious beliefs, but the mother's denial of her daughter's diagnosis. The mother herself has diabetes and recently had three toes amputated for failing to treat herself.
