Today is the day the St. Louis Archdiocese officially begins implementation of its All Things New realignment plan for most parishes -- but -- the jury is still out on a handful of appeals.
Seven parishes have appealed to the Vatican over Archbishop Mitchell Rozanski's final plan for their suppression or merger.
Because there has not been a decision from Rome yet, Archbishop Rozanski has put any changes on hold for now for those seven parishes while the recourse process is under consideration -- which could take several months.
The seven parishes are St. Angela Merici in Florissant, St. Catherine of Alexandria in Coffman, St. Francis of Assisi in Luberring, St. Martin of Tours in Lemay, St. Matthew the Apostle and St. Roch parishes in St. Louis, and St. Richard's in Creve Coeur.
The St. Louis Archdiocese is reshaping from 178 parishes to 135 -- 35 parishes will be merged into neighboring parishes. 15 parishes will be merged to create five new parishes. And a new Spanish speaking parish will open in St. Charles County.
