Are enough inmates offered vocational training after Missouri State Audit says prison program isn't working?

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Last week, Missouri State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick wrote in a audit that a Missouri prison program known as Missouri Vocational Enterprise was not working as it intended.

The Missouri Vocational Enterprise program a long-time program in the state with the goal meant to create employment opportunities for inmates who are getting ready to be released.


However, through the state audit, Fitzpatrick say the program not working. with criticisms of the program towards that over a third of participants in the program had over a decade left in their prison sentences and also determine that most of the jobs that were available in the program were in the industries that "projected to decrease in demand over the next several years."

Jeff Smith, Executive Director of the Missouri Workforce Housing Association, joined Total Information A.M. Monday to discuss the program and Fitzpatrick's audit.
