JEFFERSON COUNTY, MO (KMOX) - Ashley Parmeley, 36, of Pevely, Missouri, is now facing first-degree murder charges in the deaths of her two-year-old son and nine-year-old daughter.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office began investigating the death of two children Tuesday after Parmeley turned herself into authorities Tuesday and told them she had shot and killed one of her children while drowning another.

"When she came in, she was a little disheveled and her clothes were wet," said Jefferson County Sheriff Dave Marshak. "I don't know whether that was from the original incident crime scene or if that was subsequently part of the drowning."

Court documents say police found the little girl with a gunshot wound in the trunk of Parmeley's car at the police station, while the son was drowned his body was found in a fountain near Timber Creek Resort.

Parmeley was originally charged with second-degree murder for the death of her son, but that has since been upgraded to first-degree murder.

Parmeley remains in custody at the Jefferson County Jail without bond.
