ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The prices you're seeing at gas stations in Missouri is likely the highest it has been in more than two years. And it's expected to keep rising.
AAA Missouri Weekend Gas Watch says the average price in Missouri is $2.64 for a gallon of regular gas – which is the highest we've seen since October of 2018. Of major metro areas in the state, Columbia has the most expensive gas at $2.77 per gallon and St. Joseph is the least expensive at $2.55.
In St. Louis, the average price is currently $2.73, compared to $2.41 a week ago and it was just $2.10 this time last year.

The good news for Missouri is that it's still one of the cheapest average prices in the Country, raking 9th lowest in the country, according to AAA Gas Prices. It's nine cents more compared to this day last week and 49 cents more than the price per gallon at this same time last year.
“Gas prices are expected to keep rising in the coming days as crude oil prices climb,” said AAA spokesperson Nick Chabarria.
He says it's due to the surprise decision by The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies (OPEC+) to essentially keep current production cuts in place through April. Plus, the market optimism of the impact the stimulus package could have on the economy, has led to higher prices at the pump.
