South City publican Steven Fitzpatrick Smith has taken on the mantle of reviving the long-dormant St. Louis sister city relationship with Galway, Ireland. Not only that, he's moving there at the end of August! But not permanently.
Smith tells KMOX he was looking for a way to leave the country for awhile but being the owner of the Royale on South Kingshighway makes that difficult. Friends suggested he look to education, so he settled on getting his master's degree at the University of Galway. As a way to become more involved in his new Irish community while also staying connected to St. Louis, he decided the revitalizing the sister city relationship would be the perfect bridge.
The Royale will remain open in his absence.
And moving to Ireland
And moving to Ireland
