Black ice causes dangerous crashes, long traffic delays in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - There are accidents and traffic delays-a-plenty Monday morning that are being attributed to black ice across the greater St. Louis area. They included a jackknifed tractor trailer blocking all lanes of traffic, a truck hanging off the Chain of Rocks Bridge and many spin-out crashes.

The tractor trailer was blocking all lanes of northbound Interstate 55 starting around 5:30 this morning near the Anheuser-Busch Brewery. It happened just north of the Potomac exit:

In a scary situation north of St. Louis, a pickup truck crashed and was partially hanging off the Chain of Rocks Bridge, on the westbound lanes of Interstate 270.

The ice is expected to soon melt as temperatures will reach the 50s in much of the St. Louis area today.

Brand has been and will continue to cover all the accidents this morning:
