ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The St. Louis Blues practice facility will be under new management.

According to documents reviewed by KMOX, both the City of Maryland Heights and the St. Louis Legacy Ice Foundation, a non-profit affiliated with the Blues, have mutually agreed to part ways and the Legacy Ice Foundation will no longer operate the Centene Community Ice Center.

The termination of their current deal will be effective at the end of June after the agreement was approved by the Maryland Heights City Council at Thursday's meeting.

As part of the agreement, Maryland Heights will also dissolve the facility's Operating Committee at the request of the Legacy Ice Foundation.

Both the city and the foundation will release one another from all claims and liabilities caused by any actions prior to that date.

It also says at the city's request, Legacy Ice Foundation will serve as an ambassador for the Facility.

The termination will not affect the Blues status at the facility, as they will still hold practices at the facility that houses four rinks and a concert venue. The Blues will still be able host programming and events at the facility, including their annual prospect showcase later this fall.

"We have a 30-year lease, we love the facility, this fall we get to host a prospect camp, with the Blackhawks and Wild," said Blues President and CEO Chris Zimmermann on the Chris and Amy Show. "We're continuing to help bring great hockey to that facility, events that we just wouldn't able to have and host without it. As far as the Blues go and our appreciation for the facility, all of that is status quo."

The 300,000 square foot facility has had it's share of trouble in it's brief history. It first opened in September of 2019, six months before the COVID-19 pandemic ravaged the world.

It was also reported the arena failed to charge sales tax for it's first four years, leading to a revenue shortfall.

Neither the city or a representative of the foundation has responded to KMOX's request for comment.
