Earlier this week, KMOX's Debbie Monterrey shared the stories of a number of homeless people downtown and a woman who helps them. In a follow-up, the new city Board of Aldermen may have a renewed focus on the problem.

Board of Alderman President Megan Green says the Board is working this session on an unhoused bill of rights. That might mean rolling back an ordinance or two.

"We should not be criminalizing acts associated with homelessness," Green said. "We know that when we do criminalize people who are unhoused, it actually makes it harder for them to break the cycle of homelessness."

She said there should be a process that the city must go through to break up encampments, a time when many homeless people lose all their belongings. She added that the city is investing in more services for the unhoused, but it's been slow to roll out because they've struggled to find workers.
