The Cardinals announce a trade of starter Steven Matz to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for minor league first baseman Blaze Jordan. The 22-year-old Jordan was drafted by Boston in the third round from Southaven, Miss., a city outside of the Cardinals' Triple-A affiliate in Memphis.

Jordan leads full-season Red Sox minor leaguers in batting (.308), RBI (62), hits (99), total bases (159); ranked 2nd in runs (59), extra base hits (35) and slugging (.495); and 4th in home runs (12).

The New York Mets added relievers Tyler Rogers and Ryan Helsley. He joins Edwin Díaz as a late-inning option. Helsley comes from the Cardinals, who receive three prospects. The Mets sent right-handers José Buttó and Blade Tidwell, along with outfielder Drew Gilbert, to the Giants.

Also on Wednesday, the Philadelphia Phillies acquired reliever Jhoan Durán, signaling a willingness to pay for bullpen help as the MLB trade deadline approaches. Durán has a 2.01 ERA and 16 saves this season. He was traded for two top prospects.

The Yankees added outfielder Austin Slater, while the Cincinnati Reds acquired third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes from the Pirates. More trades are expected before Thursday's deadline.
