The Chase Park Plaza celebrates its 100th birthday this September. The iconic hotel has hosted every single President from its day of opening to Bill Clinton, as well as famous folks like the Rat Pack, Dean Martin, Elvis Presley, and many more.
Frederik Houben, the Director of Sales and Marketing at the Chase, explained that the hotel was built in just nine months, and is celebrating this year's milestone with a series of cabaret dinners featuring dishes from the past.
"A Director of Food and Beverage actually created copies of the menus that we have in our legacy room, of dishes that were served throughout the decades, and incorporated that into the food station that we're going to be serving during the anniversary celebrations," Houben said.
That includes dishes like Chase Club deviled eggs, beef tongue with pickles or dover sole with almond butter. Those dinners start on July 15.
Houben also shared some historical facts about the hotel's origins, including where its slogan came from.
"The slogan 'Chase is the place' actually was created by Liza Minnelli," Houben explained. "And the reason why Liza Minelli did commercials for the hotel -- when she stayed here, her dog actually destroyed her guest room and versus paying for the damage, she did free commercials for the Chase."
Houben also told KMOX the swimming pool was built in 1954 so the hotel could host the 1956 Miss America pageant.
