After at least 13 pedestrian deaths so far this year, concerned St. Louisans showed up to a meeting Monday night to talk about traffic safety in the city.
The City of St. Louis held a community meeting to address what's being done to calm traffic troubles on South Grand. Rachel Witt of the South Grand Improvement District said she was impressed with the city's honest take on the issue.
"The Mayor agrees, we need to do a comprehensive traffic study, which is wonderful to hear," Witt said. "And then also the traffic studies that have been conducted, we need to fund them."
Mayor Jones was not at the meeting, but the Streets Department reported that she wants something done within the next six months.
South Grand has been plagued with speeding cars and accidents -- the area saw six pedestrian fatalities in August and September. The City is looking at having a community meeting about North Grand traffic as well.
