ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - There may be a significant jump in parking fees in city-owned garages and lots, after the St. Louis Parking Commission approved a new budget on Thursday.

Hourly rates are set to rise from $3 to $4 in several garages, with the daily maximum more than doubling, from $12 to $30.

"We've looked into what our monthly rates are and what we're charging at our garages. Then we looked at our hourly rates and compared them to garages we don't own in the city, " said commission treasurer Adam Layne.

The new rates would begin July 1st, after approval of the budget by the Board of Aldermen.

City employee parking in the garages would not increase under the plan.
