With the increase in Hyundai and Kia vehicles being stolen, St. Louis' Public Safety Director said the City's legal department is looking at possible litigation against the car makers.

Hyundai and Kia said they have corrected the problem that makes stealing their cars a breeze. But Public Safety Director Dan Isom told KMOX that it's not enough.

"In my opinion, that's not an acceptable solution when you have a defective product -- millions of cars -- in the market in public space," Isom said. "There are several cities that are working on litigation that could potentially hold the manufacturers accountable."

Isom said it's a product safety issue that can be fixed, and that the manufacturer needs to issue a recall.

Over the weekend, 37 cars were broken into in the city and 18 firearms were stolen.
