ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - With dangerous heat moving into the bistate....Cool Down St. Louis wants to remind you, they are there to help the elderly and disabled.

Cool Down founder Gentry Trotter tells KMOX, instead of this weather being the exception, it's becoming the normal. "We all know that climate change is real, global warming is real, whatever you call it, however you couch it, it is reality and the reality is that the weather is getting more intense, especially the heat. We have to be use to it, we have to be very cautious about it, we have to be sure that we check on our elderly and disabled neighbors, physically, not on the phone but go see them and touch them and see how they are doing."

Cool Down St. Louis will see an increased need with this surge of heat.

Trotter says the purpose is to save lives. He also wants people to not forget performing regular maintenance on your A-C, whether a window unit, or central air.

Either way, changing the filter can make a substantial difference in your unit's cooling ability.

If you are able to make a donation, it can be a new air conditioner or monetary, which can be dropped off at any UMB Bank.

Trotter says in the 44 Counties that Cool Down St. Louis serves, there is not a lot of funding. And that's why they rely on community partners, like Ameren, and individuals.

If you need utility assistance, or an air conditioner, especially if you're a senior or disabled. Contact cooldownstl.org
