More information is surfacing about three teens released from custody after shots were fired near City Foundry over the weekend.

In a news conference Tuesday, KMOX asked Interim Public Safety Director Dan Isom what happened. "Officers were at the Foundry, investigating car break-ins," explained Isom, "three young people were arrested, as a result of that, the case was presented to the juvenile division and the individuals were released."
Late Tuesday afternoon, the 22nd Circuit Court released a statement contradicting what Isom says happened:
"[The] Judicial Circuit has determined that procedures by the St. Louis
City Family Court's intake staff and the city police weren't followed with regard to the youths held in connection with gunfire Saturday.
The police did not bring them to juvenile court for detention. No juvenile legal officer or judge was contacted regarding the incident.
Instead, a phone call occurred between the intake office and a police officer. The parties disagree as to the content of the conversation."
KMOX News asked the public safety office for a response and spokesman Monte Chambers sent a statement reading:
"SLMPD officers followed longstanding precedent when calling the Family Court’s intake staff to report apprehended juveniles, just as the Family Court’s intake staff followed longstanding precedent by telling officers to release them to their parents."
