ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A Creve Coeur man is accused of committing a racially-motivated attack in an aisle of his local Dierbergs store.

Shawn Singer, 31, was charged with fourth degree assault, motivated by discrimination, Saturday by the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office after he attacked someone inside a Dierbergs store.

According to officials, the incident took place at the Dierbergs on Olive Boulevard in Creve Coeur on Friday, Feb. 21.

Officials say the victim, male, was walking in an aisle when Singer passed him in the opposite direction. Singer mumbled something to him as he passed, which the victim could not understand.

When victim asked Singer what he said, Singer allegedly told the victim to "go back back to your f***ing country."

The victim asked Singer what has he done to him, Singer then allegedly approached him, raised his fists, and swung them in their direction.

The victim attempted to flee, but he stumbled and fell to the floor. Singer would allegedly come upon the victim and struck him repeatedly in the face and upper body.

A bystander attempted to get Singer off of the victim, and Singer stopped the assault when the bystander said police were called.

When officers arrived, they encountered Singer, and placed him in handcuffs.

As he was placed in handcuffs, Singer allegedly said he was "tired of foreigners, man. Walking all over the place, making our money cost so much more than it should."

"F***ing people trampling over us. I'm next f***ing going to China to take them down because they were part of the COVID vaccine, virus."

Singer made more statements after his arrest including saying "don't blame this on me, man, there's people who are from other countries that are taking jobs away from us".

St. Louis County Police Department Central County Precinct officers are handling this investigation.

Singer is being held on $40,000, cash only, no 10% bond.
