Crime is down in St. Louis County compared to last year. Lieutenant Brian Shelman gave some of the details.

"We have seen decreases in the amount of homicides and assaults involving firearms, down 15 and 13% respectively," Shelmand said. "In addition, aggravated assaults with other dangrous weapons are down 25%."

Larceny is down 7% overall, and has dropped 20 percent in the West County area alone.

West County Precinct Commander Tim Tanner is glad to see the changes and emphasizes that there have been efforts to make it happen.

"We're very happy with the downtrend," Tanner said. "We have a lot of efforts in combating crime, analyzing it and working to prevent it."
