UPDATE: Deidre Pujols recovering after successful brain surgery

SAINT LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - Updated: Deidre Pujols says surgery to remove a tumor in her brain went well. In an update on social media, she told followers that 99% of the tumor was removed and thanked everyone for their prayers.

In a Instagram post late Tuesday night, Deidre Pujols announced she was undergoing the brain surgery Wednesday morning. Pujols says the tumor was discovered in October.

In the post, the wife of Cardinals player Albert Pujols says "I have delayed this procedure for as long as I could out of fear and inconvenience to my busy life." She goes on to say she can delay surgery no longer and wants to take care of it "before it takes my life".

She later posted a video from a hospital bed thanking supporters for sending their "love and energy" her way, and promising to update when she was able.

Husband, Albert, a 3-time MVP, signed a one-year, $2.5 million contract on Monday, was in the lineup Wednesday morning for the Cardinals' game in West Palm Beach, Fla., against the Washington Nationals. The Cardinals slugger says he reported to spring training on the day of the operation because it was not considered life-threatening. The surgery was performed in California.
