ST. LOUIS - Delmar Divine is set to be more eco-friendly going forward.

Debbie Monterrey talks about a new solar canopy at Delmar Divine with Executive Director Jorge Riopedre.

According to Riopedre, in a partnership with Ameren, the process started around a year ago.

The canopy will cover almost the complex's entire parking lot from end to end. The solar energy that is collected from the canopy will be enough to cover 35 homes Riopedre claims.

However, the canopy will not power the Divine itself due to structural problems.

"Early on it that was talked about, but it's not the way that it is structurally set up to operate," Riopedre said, "We were simply happy that we were going to be able to engage on our campus a source of power that was clean, and bucks the trend nationally."
